The internet officially turned 40 on wednesday, 2 September 2009. The very first internet connection was made using two computers in California to send and recieve information through an experimaental military system called Arpanet. From that day on there were many crashes of the system , but slowly the e-mail was created in 1972 by Ray Thomlinson, which was followed by suffixes such as .govt. .com and .edu. Some of the more malicious acts on the internet began in 1988 when a the first worm, called Morris, was created and crashed hundreds of computers. Other things like World Wide Web, Spam , Internet browsers, Napster (music downloading), and Google all became active all before the 21st century. By 2002 the WWW population was over 500 Million, especially with the introduction of blogging youtube and facebook. There are now over 1.5 billion internet users and it is an ever increasing popultion with the new wireless devices like the iPhone and other cellphones with wireless capabilities.

In 1759 the Wedgwood ceramic company was founded by one Josiah Wedgwood. The company was originally established at the Ivy house ( Burslem, England) and later he moved to Etruria. The very first pieces of wedgwood were classic cream coloured ceramic products. One of the very first pieces he created was the cauliflower pot in 1759 It was made using the hand moulding technique, which has been a main process for making wedgwood products. The wedgwood company has kept the reputation for creating wonderful one off creations , refusing to be swayed to the more industruial and modern tecniques, there has been very little changes in the actual manufacture process. a few key innovations created by Josiah was the ceramic Black basalt and creamware. Wedgwood are currently celebarting their 250 th birthday adb have made several one off pieces such as the snake handled vase and stand designed using Jasper.

Richard Sapper is considered on of the " Super Designers" of the the 1980's. He designed a stainless steel kettle that made a sound like a locomotive, a series of flatware including a spaghetti fork, and a Flambe pan' that was designed specifically for chefs. All of these designs were under the Alessi name. Under his own name Sapper was also responsible for designing the 'Tizio' low voltage light in 1972 which had a matt-black finish.

These are some of my favourite chairs throughout the topics that we have learnt about. They all make me think of Blobject types style. I like the style of all theses chairs because they have a loose feel, unlike the more rigid style of chairs like the Toledo, or Wassily chair, which have a more industrial aesthetic.
The glaobe chair and Pastille chair were designeed by Eero Aarnio during the early beginnings of industrial design. Aarnio was both an interior and industrial designer. His designs were mostly inspired from handcrafted techniques and natural materials. The globe chair was popular in the ' 70's ( similar to that of the bubble chair that hangs from the ceiling) The Globe chair was designed in 1963 -65 an was intended to reflect the new ' space-age forms' of the 1960's. Both of theses chairs along with a few others won an award called the Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (AID) in 1968.
These are the Bucky chairs designed by Marc Newson in 1995 for the cartier contemporary Art Foundation. These chairs are were a reference to the previous Streamlining decade.
I Love this chair, the other day I saw one in a shop at the Base in Hamilton. It wasn't an original because it was made from red velour material. The Egg chair was designed by Arne Jacobsenin 1958. The idea behind the chair was to design chairs that were made from one piece. Along with the 'Egg' Chair ' Arne Jacobsen designed the 'Swan' chair and the 'Ant' chair. all these chairs follow a one piece construction method that came from a new manufacture process that allows one to mould the inside of the chair into a specific shape. The final Egg chair is made from Fiberglass, foam, aluminium, fabric and PVC.

I have seen this coffeemaker several times in the various movies that I have watched. I was actually quite surprised when I could recognise it as a famous design.
The 'coffeemaker' "Moka Express" was designed by Alfonso Bialetti in 1930. The original shape is the first image on the left. In 1933 the shape was changed to a more sleek look; which is the one I've see. The Moka Express is a stove top coffeemaker, it uscrews in the middle. Coffee is placed in the central compartment with the water below and the steam is forced out and collected in the top compartment. In the 1930 the coffeemaker was expensive and considered an odd piece of design, but today it is a common sight in most Italian homes due to mass production after WW 2 .
The maufacturer of the Moka coffeemaker was Bialletti / Moka. this link is to the Bialetti history behind the company. According to this the company officially opened in 1919 when Alfonso Bialetti started a workshop that produce aluminium 'products' . It was a combination of both Him and his son Renato that allowed them to move forward into a more marketable form of design, thus the Moka Coffeemaker became popular, along with the Bialetti name. Today they still produce products under the name Bialetti, 90 years. The Bialetti Products
